These high protein flapjacks are a simple cherry and vanilla traybake that’s brilliant for snacks, lunchboxes or a quick post-swim bite. They’re chewy, lightly sweet, and made with basic ingredients plus a scoop of protein powder to give them a little boost.
This post is sponsored by Naked Nutrition, who sent me a tub of Naked Whey to test in everyday baking.

We are no strangers to proteins and supplements around here, having had an elite athlete in the house for over 10 years. I will admit to thinking only athletes used dietary supplements for a long while but have recently been educated that most adults could do with increasing their protein intake and protein nutrition is a great way to do it.
Naked Nutrition have recently launched in the UK and the EU, after 10 years in the US. They have a range of products containing the purest raw ingredients without any added sugar, artificial flavours or colours. We chose to try the Naked Whey Vanilla Protein Powder and set about incorporating it into many of our existing recipes with ease.

FAQs about protein powder
Can you taste it in your food?
Most people say they cannot taste whey protein in their food. Some flavours may be slightly easier to detect which is why we try to stick to flavours that complement the recipe it is used in.
When is the best time to use protein powder?
- Typically 1-2 hours after exercising.
- Try to spread your protein intake out throughout the day.
Is whey protein safe to consume daily?
Yes, it is fine to have whey protein every day.
What happens if I take protein without working out?
You will mostly find that people who exercise are the ones that take protein supplements. I, myself, have only started experimenting with added protein as I have upped my swim sessions.
Even if you don’t regularly exercise to a high level, there are benefits to taking protein supplements. You may find it easier to manage your diet as you can remain full for longer, and you may find age related muscle wastage slows down.
Things to look out for though are increased weight gain. You will be consuming more calories without burning them off through exercise. In rare cases, kidneys can be put under strain too.

Ingredients needed
- Protein Powder – use the handy scoop provided for measuring.
- Glace Cherries – Chopped into half for even spread but good chunks. Glacé cherries give that Bakewell vibe; you can swap for dried cherries.
- Porridge Oats – Jumbo works best for a good bite!
- Butter
- Maple Syrup (Honey also works as a sweetener)
- 1 medium egg
- Vanilla or almond extract (optional)
Equipment
- Medium mixing bowl
- Spatula for mixing and pressing down
- 8 inch/20 cm square tin (use any shape but square makes cutting even slices easier).

Method
This really is a great, simple recipe – No whisking needed. Simply put all your dry ingredients into a bowl, beat the egg and add along with the maple syrup (and vanilla extract if using) and bring together.
Add to the baking tin and bake at 160C for 15-18 minutes.

Recipe FAQs
Can I swap the cherries?
Yes dried apricots or dates also work brilliantly in this recipe.
Can I use unflavoured protein powder?
Yes! Try experimenting with different spices (cinnamon works well) and unflavoured protein powder.
Why are my flapjacks dry/crumbly?
You may have added too many porridge oats. Try adding an extra egg if you are struggling to combine your ingredients.
Can I freeze protein flapjacks?
Yes. These are a great snack to keep in the freezer. Store them in a plastic container and separate slices with baking parchment. Defrost for around 3 hours at room temperature.
