I’ve got a tiny bit of advice for you. If you ever get tempted to take a heavy fruit Christmas Cake on a train from one end of the country to the other, think again! This is one well travelled cake – Made as a gift to the family that Millie is staying with this week in Bristol. Its the last training camp of the year so fair play to them for putting a couple of extra teenage athletes up. The good news is that the cake seemed to survive the journey and they liked their gift. I needed the design to be fairly simple with nothing that could be broken en route. I did forget about the Snowman’s nose though but luckily it didn’t get knocked.
All of this cake is fully edible – The snowflakes are coated with Snowflake shimmer rather than so called ‘edible’ glitter. I’ve done tons of research this year and it seems that ‘edible’ often means non-toxic and should only be used on removable cake items.
Another little tip for cake decorating is to make the actual icing covering the cake a colour. It takes much less time-consuming decoration to make the cake look finished.

My featured Bake for this week comes from Recipes Made Easy with this super Yule Log. There’s something so heart warming about a Yule log that reminds me of childhood Christmasses. I’m still horrified that during one of Millie’s cookery lessons they ‘made’ a Yule log by covering a shop bought swiss roll with melted chocolate. That’s not cooking! Anyhow, if you want to experiment and properly make your own Yule Log, Jacqui shows you how in her post.
