Snowman Christmas Cake

I’ve got a tiny bit of advice for you. If you ever get tempted to take a heavy fruit Christmas Cake on a train from one end of the country to the other, think again! This is one well travelled cake – Made as a gift to the family that Millie is staying with this week in Bristol. Its the last training camp of the year so fair play to them for putting a couple of extra teenage athletes up. The good news is that the cake seemed to survive the journey and they liked their gift. I needed the design to be fairly simple with nothing that could be broken en route. I did forget about the Snowman’s nose though but luckily it didn’t get knocked.

All of this cake is fully edible – The snowflakes are coated with Snowflake shimmer rather than so called ‘edible’ glitter. I’ve done tons of research this year and it seems that ‘edible’ often means non-toxic and should only be used on removable cake items.

Another little tip for cake decorating is to make the actual icing covering the cake a colour. It takes much less time-consuming decoration to make the cake look finished.

Bake of the Week

So this is the last #BakeoftheWeek roundup of the year. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with our Top 10 Bakes that were entered during 2017. Always a highlight of my blogging year.

Thanks as always go to Jenny for her unending patience with my crazy schedule and just general brilliance in baking. Her house must be fantastic to live in!

Yule log

My featured Bake for this week comes from Recipes Made Easy with this super Yule Log. There’s something so heart warming about a Yule log that reminds me of childhood Christmasses. I’m still horrified that during one of Millie’s cookery lessons they ‘made’ a Yule log by covering a shop bought swiss roll with melted chocolate. That’s not cooking! Anyhow, if you want to experiment and properly make your own Yule Log, Jacqui shows you how in her post.

Bake of the Week

Our other entries were:
1. Melt in the Mouth Almondy Mince Pies complete with crumbly, buttery pastry from Jo’s Kitchen Larder.
2. Perfect for fans of White Chocolate & Peppermint, Mummy Mishaps shares her Candy Cane Cheesecake.
3. It appears that Candy Cane Cheesecakes are like buses as Kat from The Baking Explorer shares hers too!
4. If you are looking for a speedy recipe to share with friends, Cat from Curly’s Cooking suggests her Nutella Pinwheels.

I will leave the linky open for 2 weeks for people to add any bakes. All entries will be shared on Twitter, G+, Pinterest, Stumble Upon & Yummly as well being linked to in our roundup and commented on. Please link to me (Helen) at https://casacostello.com and Jenny at http://mummymishaps.co.uk and include the badge below in your post. It would be great if you got time to visit any other entries and leave #BakeoftheWeek in your comment but totally understand that Christmas comes first!

For now I just want to wish all of our #BakeoftheWeek gang a very healthy and happy Christmas – Thanks so much for joining in over the past year x
