I suspect most houses with children are similar to ours at the moment. The girls are counting down the days until they can put up our Christmas decorations. We like to do something a little different during advent – We hope the girls already know how lucky they are to have so many comforts in life and we can already see that they are turning into decent, kind people. During advent we want to encourage kindness, consideration for others and thinking about people that maybe are not as fortunate as them. And to be nicer to their sisters! So we develop our Child Friendly Advent Calendar.
Small tasks for the girls to do each day – there are some that are suitable for all 3 to do or maybe they can take it turns each day choosing a tag. It doesn’t have to be expensive, our kindness calendar cost just £6 and adds a little more sparkle at the same time.
I went along to our local supermarket and bought silver Christmas gift tags, white ribbon and some stars from the wedding section to make the Kindness tags even prettier. It really doesn’t take long to think up ideas for the children to do but if you would like to try the Kindness Advent Calendar, I’ve included our ideas below.
We wrote our tags out for speed but if you want to add a special touch, your tasks could be printed out (I’m hoping to be able to work out how to make free printables by the time this post goes live). The tags slide onto the ribbon so there not even any tying involved.
I’ll report back during advent to let you know how the girls are getting on. We introduced the idea last advent and it seemed to go down well – hopefully we will manage all 24 days this year!

What a lovely idea! I have to admit my favourite is the Hotel Chocolat advent – but this is a lot more worthy!!!
