One tier cake in the shape of a rugby pitch on a green board with a sugar rugby player

Coming from St Helens, rugby cakes are always a popular choice. Our new, Saints Rugby League Stadium is due to open this month and you would have to be living in a hole not to feel the buzz in the town. In fact, the new stadium and a new footbridge that is being erected in the shape of a rugby ball nearly resulted in this cake not happening. Our only cake supplies shop is at the opposite end of town and is a pain to get to but sometimes needs must – and this was one of those times. The whole town was gridlocked last week as roads were closed for the new bridge – when you only have one car and 2 children needing to be at a party and 1 husband needing to be at work things get a little stressful. But anyway… the cake.

A sponge cake for a family I’ve done TONS of cakes for before. My brief was a rugby pitch and a man wearing a rugby shirt – Ta Da! I had to google what a rugby league pitch looked like – How did cake-makers survive before the internet??

Yummy looking cake! Now you are going to in recoil in horror at this, and it’s not even a scary Halloween ‘trick’ but I have not had an oven for 2 years now!

    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

But I do love forward to dribbling down my chin looking at cakes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for the Love Cookery Blogs mention ๐Ÿ™‚

Have entered my autumnal walnut/maple cake (which you sadly missed out on sampling). Shame that! x
