Like most people, we love Bank Holidays in our house. 2 rare days off together mean some precious time spent at home. I try to spend at least one afternoon at home in the kitchen and this last Monday was no exception.
The kind people at Morrisons handed out vouchers to lots of bloggers around the country, challenging us to spill the beans on what we eat on a Bank Holiday. I could have spent it on the many packed lunches that we tend to have over holiday weekends but I went for comfort food.
I live with a big meat eater – Mr C is a huge bacon fan and Morrisons happily had it on offer last weekend. Its so lovely to have a leisurely breakfast, something warm rather than floppy toast in the car doing the school run.
Smoked bacon was on 2 for £3 so there was plenty to go round. I made 2 types of Bacon Scones – One with cheese and one with maple syrup. The real star of the day was the Chicken & Bacon Puff Pastry Pie that all 5 of us devour. A real homely, tasty, comforting meal.
And so onto the Chicken and Bacon Pie. When we make this meal, I go for extra thyme – the added flavour is simply wonderful. We use good quality chicken fillets which came in at £5 for 3 at Morrisons and one pack of the bacon (£1)
Our shop to Morrisons was brilliant. They are really going for the sale items and there are some amazing bargains to be had. We loved the choice of fruit and veg and the freedom to pick single items. I’ve talked before about being a massive fan of Morrisons and the quality of their meat. A massive treat for my girls is a trip to their self serve salad bar which I am really happy to see has recently expanded to include fruit too.
Disclosure: We were sent vouchers to cover the cost of our Bank Holiday shop – We bought items that we would normally buy and had free choice which recipes to make. Thanks very much for our family Bank Holiday time, Morrisons.
I’m entering these recipes into A Mummy Too’s Recipe of the Week.
