We have been lucky enough recently to be able to escape for romantic breaks. The bonus of our children getting older and us getting some time for ourselves. We have had a bucket list of romantic cities that we wanted to visit -some of which have surprised us but others have been exactly as we expected.

We created this guide to sample some of the best cities you can visit on a romantic trip. Some of the key considerations when sampling these cities include access to enchanting scenery, intimate settings, romantic vibes, and additional options like exclusive gifts or big bouquet of flowers.

So, Which City is known for Romance?

When choosing a city for romance, it is natural to want to choose a destination known for romance itself. The most obvious answer when talking about romantic cities is Paris.

Paris was the first city that we visited child free when we went to watch our eldest compete in the Artistic Swimming World Series. She didn’t stay with us, therefore how we happened to be childfree.

Paris is known as the city for romance thanks to its enchanting streets that are adorned with not just art but also culture which provide the perfect backdrop for love to blossom.

From the iconic Seine River to the charming Montmartre district, every corner of Paris exudes an aura of amour. But what really makes Paris a dream destination for lovers worldwide is the city’s rich history, breathtaking architecture and exquisite cuisine.

What are the most Romantic Cities to Travel?

Other than Paris, several other cities fit the bill for the city of romance. If you’re looking for the most romantic city to travel, here are five suggestions to add to your bucket list:

  1. Venice, Italy

Venice stands out as one of the most romantic cities to visit thanks to its winding waterways and pastel piazzas. Glide along the canals on a gondola past iconic landmarks like the Bridge of Sighs.

On your trip, be sure to try hot chocolate at Cafe Florian and explore the glassworks of Murano. Lose yourself in the city’s enchanting streets to find intimate spots to share a pizza. Enjoy your pizza watching the sunset over the canals.

  1. Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

Sitting along the California coast, Carmel-by-the-Sea exudes charm. Drive through scenic forests and vineyards to reach its picturesque cliffs and secluded beaches.

For a perfect bonding time with your significant other, explore Carmel-by-the-Sea to discover the hidden bistros, boutique shops, and quaint wineries along the rugged coast. For a perfect end to your romantic tour, spend the rest of the evening watching the sun dip below the Pacific horizon with your loved one.

  1. Rome, Italy

This list wouldn’t have been complete without a mention of Rome. The Eternal City offers endless opportunities for awe.

When planning to visit Rome Italy, consider visiting iconic landmarks like the Colosseum and the Vatican. We didn’t particularly enjoy our visit to the Trevi Fountain as it was so busy but we absolutely loved heading to the top of St Peter’s Basilica.

To satisfy your taste buds, indulge in authentic Roman cuisine, from pizza at Il Forno Roscioli to gelato in Prati. Rome’s rich history and culinary delights make it a romantic paradise.

  1. Arabian Desert

Is there a better way to enjoy a romantic escape than experiencing the magic of a desert sunrise together? Rise early for a hot air balloon ride over the Arabian desert.

This offers breathtaking views and unforgettable moments. Afterwards, enjoy a leisurely breakfast spiced up with beautiful flower settings. After that, embark on a safari to discover the desert’s wildlife. Also for a perfect end of the day enjoy a fireside dinner as you watch the sunset paint the desert sky.

  1. Dubai

If you love flowers, the Dubai Miracle Garden is a must-visit on your next romantic tour. It’s a true unique and romantic experience amidst the stark beauty of the desert landscape. When here, immerse yourselves in a floral wonderland just as the name suggests.

We had lazy days on the beach in Dubai and incredible trips to the 148th floor of the Burj Kalifa. Just magical!
