Easy Cherry Scones Recipe - Great for baking with kids and perfect for serving at Afternoon Tea

Equipment

  • 1 Baking tray
  • 1 Scone Cutter Choose the size that you prefer

Ingredients
  

  • 350 g Self Raising Flour Plus a little extra for rolling out the dough
  • 85 g Butter As cold as possible - Cut into small cubes
  • 3 tbsp Caster Sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 75 ml Milk
  • 200 g Glace Cherries Cut into quarters

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 210C and line a baking tray with Baking Parchment
  • Mix the flour and sugar together in a medium to large mixing bowl
  • Rub in the butter using your finger tips. Do NOT overwork the dough
  • Add the lemon juice, vanilla extract and milk using a kitchen knife to mix until just combined
  • Gently stir through the glace cherries until evenly spread
  • Bring the dough together and roll out on a lightly floured surface until about 3-4cm thick. Cut out using your preferred sized cutter
  • Bake until golden on the top and bottom. Large scones will take around 20 minutes - Smaller ones will take 12-15 minutes
  • Remove from the oven and leave to cool on a wire rack. Best eaten the same day

Notes

For large scones, this recipe will serve around 6 scones. You should be able to get around 12 scones out of this recipe, using small cutters.
