Well I am! Things are changing around here. I’m starting up the cake business again and going back to what I know and mostly love.
There’s various reasons –
I’ve missed it: Yes, I’ve missed playing with my sugar. I made Tara’s birthday cake this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I know I had free reign on the design and that it didn’t really matter if it wasn’t perfect (Actually, scrap that, it totally mattered to Tara). Not all orders will be like that but I honestly love doing all types of cakes so bring on the challenge.
We need the money – After almost 8 years of blogging, I’m simply not earning enough to add to our bills. Synchro costs us an arm & a leg, as do all the other activities that the girls do. I need to be able to contribute.
I’ll still be blogging but really just for me now. I’m looking forward to being freer about what I post – I can’t do the endless hours of promotion or pitching to brands any more. Its soul destroying how many brands approach me and want me to cook/bake/write for them for free. I’ve had 4 requests for recipe work today alone that had no budget attached to them – I have lost the energy to even reply.
I’m good at cakes – Well, I hope I still am. I know I’ve slowed down a lot but will speed up with practice. It will be so refreshing to be paid and valued for my skill rather than justifying why I do what I do. Only last week, a workman scoffed at the job of blogger, asking if that is even a real job. I’m too tired to argue anymore.
So what will be different from last time?
Well, I won’t have babies at home – Cakes will be my job in school hours, term time. I know that will limit the orders I can take but that is fine.
I’m older now and hopefully wiser – If an order doesn’t fit in with our schedule, I’m brave enough to say no. Bridezillas and people wanting rude body parts need not apply.
Where will Bake of the Week go? Nowhere – You may have noticed that over the past few weeks, our linky has been somewhat sporadic – I lost my mojo if I’m honest. It was all part of the constant need to be searching for paid blog work – now I can get back to doing what I love best baking and cakes! There may be more sugarcraft cakes as opposed to simple recipes but that’s how Bake of the Week started so its all good.
Well, thats spat that out, so bring on the orders (Please!) and Bake on!
