A bright and chirpy cake for this week’s Cake of the Week. Little Phoebe was having an Hawaii theme party for her second birthday. Her mum, Clare always has the best ideas and finds the best designs for her daughter’s parties and cakes.
I first got to know Clare 3 years ago when I made her vintage wedding cake and my first ever ‘wonky’ cake for her then 2 year old. She has always known how to challenge me – wouldn’t want it any other way! I must find pics of those cakes.
The cake for Phoebe was to match her tableware and include a marzipan model of Phoebe with her blonde hair and blue eyes.
I loved the challenge of doing something different and really enjoyed making all the flowers for the side. They were all dusted to give the illusion of being darker at the edges. I made the skirt by pushing marzipan through a sugar gun (cake designers always have fabulous arm muscles!)
The tree was based on the trees used on my gruffalo cake with a pillar inside covered with chocolate flavoured fondant… and of course the compulsory smiley face!
What other cakes are out there this week? Let’s see your successes and disasters!
