Cake of the Week – Saints Rugby Cake

I had to take a week off Cake of the Week last week – Half term just had me beaten.

But I wasn’t slacking on the work front. Oh No!

Coming from St Helens, rugby cakes are always a popular choice. Our new, Saints Rugby League Stadium is due to open this month and you would have to be living in a hole not to feel the buzz in the town. In fact, the new stadium and a new footbridge that is being erected in the shape of a rugby ball nearly resulted in this cake not happening. Our only cake supplies shop is at the opposite end of town and is a pain to get to but sometimes needs must – and this was one of those times. The whole town was gridlocked last week as roads were closed for the new bridge – when you only have one car and 2 children needing to be at a party and 1 husband needing to be at work things get a little stressful. But anyway… the cake.

A sponge cake for a family I’ve done TONS of cakes for before. My brief was a rugby pitch and a man wearing a rugby shirt – Ta Da! I had to google what a rugby league pitch looked like – How did cake-makers survive before the internet??

Violet wanted to get in on the act too – so here she is!

There were great entries as usual for the last Cake of the Week and I’d like to thank them – I couldn’t promote them as much as usual due to another crazily busy week.
Kate from the Five F’s Blog entered her yummy looking Neapolitan Marble Cake – I was completely fed up by this cake as I should have been tasting it at the South Lancs Clandestine Cake Club. At the last minute, I had to cancel due to childcare – I had made a Battenburg cake to take too :-( Maybe next time.
Janine also entered her great bowling cupcakes (I’m really enjoying reading her blog at the moment – if you go here you will read a really lovely post about her mum’s dressing table – gulp)

I’m putting up the linky again this week – you have a mission to spread the word – let’s get some new faces into Cake of the Week (although the old faces are lovely too!)

I’m entering new territory too this week. I’ve signed up to help promote and work on Love Cookery Blogs started by Annie over at Mammasaurus Blog. Every week food bloggers are invited to link up their foodie blog posts and we compile a summary of what is going on in the food blogging world. Get linking here!
