Cake of the week – Handbags
I LOVE handbag cakes! And I love this cake too – I wasn’t too sure how the colours would work out until it started coming together but I think they are really striking. Phew! If they hadn’t worked it would have only been my fault as it was me who suggested them in the first place. Julia is described by her daughter as an ‘amazing woman, who is full of life and a really young 60 who is mad on handbags’ – she sounds fab! At the birthday party, the balloon clusters are being held down by different colour sparkly handbags so Jayne (the daughter) wanted these reflecting in the cake – some of the bags are purple, black and gold, hence the colours. Hadn’t made a chocolate cake for ages so got a bit of practice at this too – its all coming back to me slowly! Soon be full steam ahead after my period of maternity leave (which I have mightily enjoyed by the way!) No Cake of the Week next week but I’ve got so many plans for when I’m back. TWD Cinnamon Squares and More Chocolate!
Whoops! Didn’t realise it was 5 past 12 – I am 5 minutes late for posting this week’s Tuesday With Dorie post – The group with members all from all over the world where we all bake the same thing and post our results on a Tuesday/Wednesday-just! This week it was the turn of Cinnamon Squares chosen by Tracey of Tracey’s Culinary Adventures My results as you can tell from again a rubbish pic are just average – I have to say I wasn’t disappointed as I didn’t really expect much from this recipe but I don’t think I’d make again – It was just like a mocha cake which really don’t excite me that much. My choc/coffee layer sank to the bottom (which has never happened to me before – I feel like I have joined a gang!) The choc frosting layer did make it better and it will probably all get eaten. There are far better pics from other bakers though so dont take my word for it, hop on over to the rest of the gang I haven’t posted for over a week so I have a massive backlog of cake posts – I thought I would more »
A strange looking Mixed Berry Cobbler – TWD
Sorry everyone, I just could not fit in anything else this week apart from my orders. We are seriously eating microwave meals just to stay alive but hope to be back on form next week (or maybe the week after!) In the meantime a photo of what has been keeping me so busy… Next week Tuesday with Dorie recipe – Apple Cheese Scones (Not great for a cheese hater like me!)
TWD – A revelation!
Well, Tuesday has come around again awfully quickly! This week’s Tuesdays With Dorie assignment was the very easy Gooey Chocolate Cakes. The recipe this week was chosen by Leigh of Lemon Tarlet. Many Thanks for an easy recipe this week during the mother of all cake weeks…More to come in future post. The recipe didn’t use too many products and it was nice to bake a recipe that didn’t leave me thinking we were going to eat cake ALL week (not that that would be such a bad thing!). We were asked to use bittersweet chocolate (which I presume is Dark Chocolate over here? I have to admit I was too bone idle to find out as I had a bag of pelletts from Thorntons designed for use in chocolate fountains that I wanted to try – I think they worked just fine and it saved having to break up a load of choc) The book didn’t have a picture so I had to guess what size muffin tin Dorie was talking about – We have so many different varieties here in the UK – I went with bigger than a fairy cake but smaller than a Starbucks Muffin – more »
