How excited are we on a scale of 1-10? I’m finally starting to feel Christmassy (although I might lose that Christmas spirit in about 10 minutes when I give Tara her Christmas bath!) I’ve been tagged to take part in the Christmas bloggers Tag by Sarah at Toby Goes Bananas so have decided to tell all about Christmas at the Costellos x
What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?
Poseidon or Nativity – Never seen It’s A Wonderful Life!
Have you ever had a White Christmas?
Think it briefly snowed about 5 years ago but don’t recall a completely white one. Can’t say I’m bothered – I am tempted to go away somewhere hot one Christmas though.
Where do you usually spend your Christmas holiday?
Christmas Day is spent at home. We really don’t travel far on the day itself. We do try to go away somewhere over the Christmas break and will probably visit my sister in Leeds at some point but really try to keep local. We do so much travelling throughout the year that we become proper homewards …and love it!
What is your favourite Christmas song?
Ooh so many! Johnny Mathis – When a child is born is a particular favourite but Silent Night & Away in a Manger get an honourable mention. I can’t listen to The Pagies & Kirsty McColl without having a good singalong too. We’ve been listening to Heart Xmas radio since mid November so I’m well soaked in cheesy Christmas tunes.
Do You Open Any Presents on Christmas Eve?
Our girls do – Onesies that are from Grandma Julie but everything else is saved for Christmas Day.
Can you name all of Santa’s Reindeers?
Yep – but do you count Rudolph?
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
Oh I love it all – Sprinkling the reindeer food, creeping downstairs to see if ‘he’s been’ and enjoying the first Port & Lemon of the day after church. Squee! Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a new cookbook so I’ll be engrossed in Nigel Slater later tonight.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Its real and a disaster as you can see. Kittens and Christmas trees do not mix. I’m thinking of taking it down on Boxing Day.
What is your favourite Christmas food/drink?
Christmas Cake and a Port & Lemon! We don’t have a traditional turkey Christmas dinner – We have Steak, Chips with mushrooms and pepper sauce instead and love it.
Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
I honestly prefer giving – especially to the children. I get rather stressed about people giving me presents in case they have spent too much.
What’s the best Christmas present you have ever received?
Sadly, I don’t remember a lot of the physical presents (I think I did get a bike when I was about 9 that I loved) but I did get a niece on the 27th, 10 years ago and a nephew on the 28th, 7 years ago so they are pretty awesome!
What is your dream place to visit for the Christmas season?
We’ve never been away for Christmas itself but have visited Ireland and Scotland shortly afterwards. Definitely within the next few years we will be trying out somewhere hot for Christmas. Suggestions are very welcome!
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I’m very happy that we share the majority of the wrapping in this house (usually because I completely run out of time). Mr C is so much better at it than me! I faff around far too much whereas Mr C gets on with it and gets it done.
What’s your most memorable Christmas memory?
Being told during Christmas dinner that my Dad has been awarded an MBE from the Queen. We had to keep it to ourselves until the New Years Honours List was made public but it was still very special.
What made you realise the truth about Christmas?
I have no idea what you could possibly mean? Believe to receive and all of that …
What makes Christmas special for you?
The highlight of my Christmas every year is Mr C being off work for around 4 days. He works 6 days per week usually so this is a real treat. Its definitely the gift of time that is important in this house at this time of year. A few days away from the pool and time to relax. Cannot wait!
So that’s our Christmas in a nutshell -I’d love to hear about your Christmas traditions and plans. I’m not going to tag anyone at this late stage but feel free to share. Once again, I’ve left everything until too late – Maybe next year I’ll be more organised!
