I’ve got to face facts, winter is not only on its way but its well and truly here. We went to Centre Parcs in Cumbria last week followed on by a weekend in Glasgow for the Scottish Nationals synchronised swimming competition. When we set off on our travels on the Monday, the weather was pleasantly deceiving, lovely and warm sunny days and mild evenings. By Thursday, we were perished.
I realised that I hadn’t packed with winter in mind and found the girls and myself wearing nigh on the same outfit all week – the good old staple of jeans, long top and cardi. I reckon its time for a wardrobe makeover to have a change from the norm without spending a fortune. I know I don’t need to look extra smart as I’m not going out to work – chasing after a 21 month old requires comfy and practical clothes but I want to look presentable too.
I can’t afford a completely separate wardrobe for daytime and evenings but am aware that I want to look my best for WI meetings – we sometimes get 60+ members attending and the last thing I want to do is stand up in front of them looking like a bag of rags. I recently went away for the weekend with some old school friends and inspected them for suitable style tips for a lady in her
mid *ahem* late thirties. On my winter wishlist are some lovely wooly dresses with thick tights, long boots and woolies – I’ll be checking out Zalando’s knitwear selection for cold days – no more bobbly cardis for me!
I’m no style guru but I am determined as I go into my 40th year kicking and screaming that I won’t look middle aged. On second thoughts, I might go and raid my sister’s wardrobe! What’s the point in having sisters if you can’t borrow from them? And there you go, a money saving tip too. I don’t think I could ever do what this lady is doing and manage a whole year without buying any clothes – fair play to her for trying!
What are your winter staples for your wardrobe? Have you got a particular item of clothing that you just can’t imagine coping with winter without?
