Here’s how making toast for breakfast went in our house until last week:
- Put the toaster on to warm
- Put the bread in the toaster
- After a couple of minutes, turn the bread around – the toaster had only cooked one side of bread at a time for months, and then it only did the middle.
- Do NOT leave the toaster unattended as it burns the toast the second you forget about it
- Answer one of the kid’s questions
- Notice a burning smell
- Noooo! The toast has burnt.

Millie feels very grown up that she is now allowed to use the new, improved, safe toaster on her own – I even caught her trying to do her hair in its reflection this morning – it is THAT shiny!
