A much less stressful week for cakes this week so why on earth was I so last minute finishing this camel cake? I was due to deliver it on Friday at 2pm and at 1.20PM I'm still putting the last minute touches on it. I always have been better with a deadline though.
The cake has a lovely story behind it - Joshua is emigrating to Saudi Arabia next Thursday. He was leaving his primary school on Friday and his Mum had organised a party for him and 12 of his friends to say Goodbye. Needless to say, Joshua's Mum burst into tears when she saw the cake - I must get out of the habit of making everyone cry!
I based the camel on a picture of one from Custom Cake Designs based in Australia (but did send them a message to say I hope it was ok). I wanted to add the suitcase detail to show where they were going to and added Demerara sugar around the base to look like sand.
It's been a bit of week for travelling, we have just had a lovely family weekend away in Yorkshire and on Thursday night we met up with some friends who were going back to New Zealand early the next morning. It is 5 years since they emigrated and they don't expect to be back for at least another 5 to visit (not surprising with 4 kids) - Looks like we'll just have to pay them a visit in between! π

Oh no! I forgot that tomorrow was St George's Day, thanks for the reminder! I need to go buy a book for Mr Goldfish!

Or you could just go for afternoon tea and sing Jerusalem according to Wiki π
I thought you'd made a spelling mistake with the title. I was expecting caramel cake, but I should know better really and be quite prepared to see a 'camel' cake here. He looks very friendly ;0)
You can only guess what I was thinking as I was making his 'feet' π
Thank you for your lovely mention! I have linked up a coconut and lime layer cake this week. Always look forward to seeing the other entries
