This cake was enormous! And a bit out of the ordinary for a first birthday, which I love.
There was tons of piping which took ages but I was pleased with the result. The ’1′ was polystyrene covered in Disco Baby Blue.
At the last minute I slightly changed the design and decided to make a sugar crown cake topper – I found loads of girly crowns on the internet but no boys ones so had to make it up as I went along. I will post how I did it later this week.
I’ve put the link up as usual for Cake of the Week. Some great entries for last week including a most GORGEOUS child’s birthday cake (Much admiration for the amount of daisies on this beauty!) and Nina submitted this fabulous Horse Cake for her daughter’s birthday.
As usual, Cake of the week isn’t a competition, its just for fun. You don’t have to be a professional cake maker – I’m looking forward to getting some recipes submitted too. Whatever, you do have a good baking week – I’m thinking there will be a lot of battenburgs and lemon tarts being made around the country this week after Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry’s masterclass on TV last Thursday.

Added my Apple Crumbly cakes. You can almost get away with calling them healthy!! (almost!) x
Wow! That was quick – Thanks for adding them. They look absolutely YUM! Can’t wait to make them
Just gorgeous. Lucky wee boy
Thank you – I actually met little Rehan – he is gorgeous with a huge mop of curly hair and the biggest eyes
I love how the tiers in the cake are not only graduated in diameter, but also in thickness and color – amazingly clever design. Love it
Thank you – Rehan’s Mum was very clear about what design she wanted but was open to ‘artistic interpretation’ which was great!
love it, the crowns a lovely touch
Thank you – I was just amazed it worked out first time
It’s gorgeous, Helen. You’re so talented.
Aw thanks, Stella. I’m just very lucky
