I LOVE handbag cakes! And I love this cake too – I wasn’t too sure how the colours would work out until it started coming together but I think they are really striking. Phew! If they hadn’t worked it would have only been my fault as it was me who suggested them in the first place.
Julia is described by her daughter as an ‘amazing woman, who is full of life and a really young 60 who is mad on handbags’ – she sounds fab!
At the birthday party, the balloon clusters are being held down by different colour sparkly handbags so Jayne (the daughter) wanted these reflecting in the cake – some of the bags are purple, black and gold, hence the colours.
Hadn’t made a chocolate cake for ages so got a bit of practice at this too – its all coming back to me slowly! Soon be full steam ahead after my period of maternity leave (which I have mightily enjoyed by the way!)
